A mural can have the ability to take you out of the moment that you are in into a different realm. Walking down the street, ruminating, we are often far from where we are physically standing in the moment. The mural, Letting Go, is about the small joy of being fully present. Kites fly far from the ground and travel to great heights, the human body cannot go to with such ease. The kites dance in the air, and are a reminder of joy and simplicity. Kites can be a symbol of competitiveness or “fight” or just enjoyed for their beauty or “flight”. Not too long ago, I remember standing in my grandparents’ garden in Pakistan and watching my cousin’s kites and running joyfully along. Since then, my grandparents have departed, and I wonder how much I can hold onto a place that is also home without the people who made it home. Letting Go is about growing with the changes of life. About the weightlessness of a kite dancing in the sky.
