Kalee Jones W.
Born in Texas, raised in Oklahoma and steeped in Colorado, Kalee Jones W. is a color-driven painter, stained glass crafter, and jewelry artist. In 2007 she completed her BA in Visual Arts from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. Upon returning to Oklahoma in 2010, Kalee dove deep into her painting practice. Along the way she came across a box of her late mother’s stained glass cuttings and picked up the craft. This new art form led to decorative metalwork and eventually to silversmithing. In recent years, Kalee has taken her painting to a new scale through opportunities in the mural community OKC, jumpstarted via the Oklahoma Mural Syndicate and Plaza Walls.
As a painter, Kalee hones principles of stillness, authenticity, and openness to make spontaneous compositions, often housing camouflaged figurations. Her work features abundant color and orchestral-like motion. Kalee’s process is very much in the moment. Her lack of preconception allows the unforeseen to arise in a visually delightful way.
