Plight Studio (she/her they/them)

My name is Karson Brooks, but I go under the artist name, Plight. As I've been told in life, embrace the things that make you stronger. So, it only seemed right to find identity through the thing that has guided me most.

To best describe my art, it's like the layers of an onion. Haha, with all Shrek jokes aside, there are a lot of layers to how my art became what is it. From my background as a printmaker in college to my career as a graphic designer, I have my hand in a lot of different gardens to make this process grow. I love combining bold colors with dark concepts, and working in small stories for each series.

My next major projects involve publishing and holding an exhibit for my comic, Belmont. It features an anthology of stories about my beloved cats, and often has no narrative. Instead, I focus of the expressive facials elements of the characters and their surrounds.

I'm beyond excited to really open myself to the Oklahoma community as an artist. Having been so career-driven for years, I neglected to hold myself up as an artist. It's been such a warming and welcoming experience to finally fight back the shyness and join my fellow artists in this wonderful adventure.
